Mayte Jannell Garcia is an American dancer, actress and choreographer. She’s best known for her marriage to pop singer Prince. Garcia was born to parents John and Janelle on November 12, 1973 in Fort Rucker, Alabama. She has a sister named Janice. Garcia’s father was in the military and as a result she had to relocate several times during her childhood. She’s an alma mater of General H. H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden, Germany.

CAREER
Garcia began belly dancing at the age of three. She was featured on the reality show, That’s Incredible!, as the youngest professional belly dancer. She was eight at the time. Garcia danced on Prince’s Diamonds and Pearls Tour in 1992. She provided vocals on a few of his albums starting with ‘Love Symbol’ in 1992. She was also a member of The New Power Generation band from 1991 to 1996.

As a recording artist, Garcia is known for her 1995 album ‘Child of the Sun’, released by NPG Records. The album featured the singles “If I Love U 2nite”, “House of Brick” and “The Most Beautiful Boy in the World”. She choreographed Britney Spears‘ 2001 music video for the single “I’m a Slave 4 U”. Garcia held recurring role in the series ‘Army Wives’, and ‘Hollywood Exes’ and was featured in the films Firehouse Dog (2007), and Dus (2005). Other notable appearances include Big Shots, Across the Hall, and Dance Your Ass Off.
